Systems Engineer  

The System Engineer provides troubleshooting, and onsite and remote support for Information Technology such as servers, storage, desktops, printers, and network equipment for our small business clients. Maybe part of a project team in implementing a technical solution. 

Compensation package:

  • 1099 contract

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for responding to customer support requests by taking ownership of the ticket, working on the problem, documenting the resolution and time required, and communicating the high-level details effectively to the client.
  • Configure, deploy and manage server hardware and software configurations to include but not limited to, Microsoft Server, Exchange, Office 365, Active Directory, virtual environments (VMWare and Microsoft Hyper-V), and basic Cloud Services (AWS, Azure).
  • Configure, deploy and manage basic network infrastructure appliances including but not limited to, switches, routers, UTMs, wireless access points, and firewalls.
  • Ability to support a migration from Exchange to O365-hosted email.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft 365-hosted applications such as Teams, SharePoint, Email, and OneDrive.
  • Configure, deploy, and manage workstation and laptop hardware and software configurations.
  • Deploy backup solutions to ensure the integrity and recoverability of clients’ data both on and offsite.
  • Provide support for mobile workforce access back to a production environment to include but not limited to, smartphones, iPad, SSL-VPN, and laptops.
  • Troubleshoot and support storage solutions such as iSCSI, Fiber Channel, and NAS.
  • Configure, deploy and manage basic security solutions for email services.
  • Provide technical expertise for the resolution of technical problems including software, hardware, network, systems, and application support.
  • Provide documentation of the technical environment of both internal and client systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required:

Required: 

  • Knowledge of IT systems and processes including desktop support, peripheral support, software support/interoperability, Windows and Linux-based systems and applications, network protocols, network, and systems security, networking and connectivity, telecommunications, storage, and backup, & email services
  • Minimum of 2-3 years experience in an IT engineer role
  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience supporting virtualized environments 
  • Strong oral and communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in Information Technology support for SMB clients for an IT Managed services provider
  • MCSA, MTA, MC: Azure Administrator Associate, VCP, CCNA
  • Associate’s degree or trade courses
